Local bass clarinetist, composer and 12-year Bay Area resident Aaron Novik is releasing an album based on the works of three “outsider” poets from the streets of the Mission (Bart Alberti, Swan, and Michael B. Loggins).

The project began when Novik attended Alberti’s funeral, read his poem “Bataille” on a bookmark, and heard a tune in his head.  The 21 compositions on Floating World, Volume 1, released last Tuesday on Mission-based Porto Franco Records, are perfect for fans of anything from classical and jazz to musical theater, the vaudevillian and the downright carnival-esque. Check out Novik and his band at the Red Poppy Art House this Friday during his CD release party.
