More Love for Frances

If you thought reservations were tough to get at Frances right now, it may start getting even more difficult in the near future.

Melissa Perello’s highly acclaimed Castro eatery made national news on Thursday, getting high praise from one Tim Zagat on NBC’s The Today Show.

Zagat and his wife Nina are the co-founders and publishers of the Zagat Restaurant Surveys.

He talked with Ann Curry about some of the top new restaurants in markets across the country and heaped praise on Frances.

He said he loves Perello’s “excellent California-style food and use of locally sourced ingredients,” and called the food “comforting and brilliant at the same time.”

Frances was named the “top newcomer” restaurant for San Francisco in the 2011 Zagat Survey.

  1. OMG. What hold does Perrello have on the food industry? First she got named one of the best restaurants in the country now Zagat is crowing over her. I’ve eaten at Frances several times and found the food to be standard mediocre SF fare–unimaginative, unchallenging but passable. Yet what’s fascinating is the cult-like following that’s evolved around this establishment. Will the sane people of this city stand up and stop the madness?
