In a shocking turn of events, Arizona Democratic Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, was shot point blank in the head at public event this morning by suspect Jared Lee Loughner who is now in custody. The congresswoman is in critical condition after undergoing surgery at the University Medical Center in Tucson. However, one of her aides has died along with six others, including a 9-year old girl and the federal judge John Roll.

It is reported that 22-year old Loughner used an automatic weapon and that he fired at Giffords from only 4-four away. The shooting took place outside a Safeway in Tuscon during a meet and greet event Giffords’ office had organized for her constituents.
