More and more people are biking to work, using the bike lanes and asking for more access. Will there be more biking options as a means of transportation going forward? I’d always assumed that Market Street would be the first to get the full treatment, where bikes, walkers and Muni own the street. Few, if any, cars allowed!

“The public opinion used to be that San Francisco never could be a bicycle city because of the topography,” said Mayor Gavin Newsom. “But now we’re seeing that view change as more people are biking to work and school and to get around the city.”

City officials say they’re moving forward faster than expected, with the bulk of new lanes set to be completed by July 2012.

In addition, the transportation agency also is installing hundreds of new bike racks.

Personally, I’d like to see a dedicated street in SoMa for bikes and Buses or Light Rail — Townsend from Cal Train to Division? Nonetheless, it’s a step in the right direction.
