While last week’s performance, or lack thereof, a 34-16 loss to Green Bay, probably had more to do with Singletary’s decision to give Alex Smith yet another chance, I for one will be both shocked and impressed when Mr. Smith takes his first snap under center as the starting QB.

“Because of the experience, obviously (Alex) knows the playbook. He’s been here, has been in the system, has gone through training camp, the whole nine yards. I just feel that right now he gives us the best chance to win.”

But it doesn’t erase the fact that we have our own experiences of Alex Smith. The big question is not, will he be able to save the season, but will this be his last hurrah as a starting QB in the NFL or can he somehow resurrect his career?
